CINQUE TERRE TOURS FROM LUCCA DETAIL
The Cinque Terre, meaning “five lands”. They are a handful of tiny dwellings clinging to the steep cliff edges of the Liguria coast. Protected by a National Park, the area is a haven for walking enthusiasts; it offers pathways snaking the coastline with spectacular panoramic views; sparkling turquoise seas; picture-perfect villages characterized by colorful little houses. And the food and wine isn’t bad either: focaccia genovese and white wines like Sciacchetrà are a must-try.
Each terra has its own distinct character:
- Riomaggiore, the southernmost village, is famed for the wine grown on its steep vineyards;
- Manarola feels a bit more rustic than its neighboring villages, and exudes charm;
- Corniglia, the only village not on the sea, offers breath-taking bird’s eye views of the scenery;
- Vernazza is known for the church sitting on the water edge;
- Monterosso, the northernmost village, has a long stretch of sandy beach.
